In September more than 1,000 people across Hinckley and Bosworth nominated their favourite local café as part of a call by Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, to recognise the vital role that cafés play within the community.
In total, 50 cafés were nominated as ‘Hinckley and Bosworth’s Favourite Café’ with many people taking the time to leave positive comments about why they felt that café deserved to win.
The local MP visited cafés which received the first, second and joint-third most nominations to thank the teams for their hard work and congratulate them on taking the top spots.
Epicurean Lounge in Hinckley received the most number of nominations, followed by Liberteas Tea Room in Newbold Verdon, and What the Fork in Hinckley and Jaffles @ No 3 in Market Bosworth came joint-third.
The ‘favourite café’ competition was open from 30th August to 4th October and people across Hinckley and Bosworth were invited to nominate their favourite local café and leave an anonymised comment as to why that café received their vote.
Dr Evans also spoke about the competition and winning cafés in the House of Commons. In response Lucy Powell MP, Leader of the House, said “What a good idea his competition was. I congratulate the winners, and all his constituents on taking part. I look forward to a bacon butty, a cup of tea, and maybe a piece of cake in Hinckley and Bosworth at some point in the future.”
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, said “I recently had the honour of announcing the winners of 'Hinckley and Bosworth's Favourite Café' in the House of Commons, and putting my congratulations to them all on the record!
“I was blown away by the number of people who took part (over 1,000) and I really enjoyed reading the comments people submitted so I wrote to each café which was nominated to share some of the kind comments people left about them.
It’s been great to hear from some of the cafés about how much this recognition from their customers has meant to them, and I’ve been touched to see a few letters in frames!
“A very big well done to each café which was nominated, your hard work is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed – keep it up, and most importantly, please do visit and support your local cafe!"
