Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, has welcomed £1,400,000 of funding to boost heating efficiency and cut heating costs in vulnerable homes across Hinckley and Bosworth, as part of work to improve energy security in the UK.
The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, worth over £770 million, will mean people living in the most vulnerable households across Hinckley and Bosworth are eligible for funding to improve their property’s energy efficiency, helping the environment, saving money and creating more jobs in our area to deliver the changes.
Such upgrades are expected to save residents between £200 and £400 on their energy bills.
Thanks to the cap on wholesale gas and electricity prices, the £400 winter grant for all households and other direct packages of support, the Government is currently subsidising around 50% of energy bills for households.
The funding committed by Government will be matched with around £1.1 billion in funding provided by Social Housing Landlords. This means the overall package will benefit 115,000 low-income households.
The scheme forms part of the Conservative Government’s commitment to reduce overall UK energy demand by 15 per cent by 2030.
In addition, local further education provider North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, with a campus in Nuneaton and Hinckley, is set to receive £3,065,846 thanks to the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Energy Security, said “Since Russia’s war drove up energy prices the Government has been committed to helping every household with cost of living pressures.
“In addition to three further packages of support worth a total of £900 this year, I am pleased the most vulnerable households in our community will be able to access funding for efficient heating systems, saving up to £400 a year.”
Commenting, Energy Secretary, Grant Shapps MP said “This winter, we have all become acutely aware of our energy bills and how best to keep our homes warm.
“In the face of Putin’s war driving up prices, we have already stepped to pay around half of the average household’s energy bills to help get through the winter months.
“Today, we are going even further to boost energy efficiency and bring down bills for those who need it the most.”
