David Tredinnick, Bosworth’s Member of Parliament, and Cllr Mike Hall, Leader of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, are urging local residents to fully engage and take part in the NHS consultation on its proposals for the future of local services as outlined in its Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP).

The STP aims to build on the NHS Better Together Programme, which addressed many issues, particularly the reconfiguring of acute hospital services to address long standing issues around the condition of NHS premises and how they are utilised. The Hinckley and District Hospital on Mount Road is deemed by the STP as not fit for purpose for providing modern healthcare, and unfortunately does not have the scope to accommodate the expansion of certain local services and does not lend itself to feasible NHS re-use. As such, it is proposed to move services to other sites, with the X-ray and Ultrasound departments moving into Hinckley Health Centre, which is directly next to the Mount Road Hospital and which will be refurbished to provide the extra clinical rooms needed.

Other services will be moved to the Hinckley and Bosworth Community Hospital (Sunnyside), which is one of the best condition facilities in the area, and has plenty of scope for investment to expand the range of local services available.

David Tredinnick said, “There are huge and growing pressures facing the NHS. There is a need to ensure that existing services are upgraded in the best possible way to meet the changing needs of patients and the requirements of modern healthcare.

“When I look at these proposals my priority is to ensure that key health services are retained locally, and that there are modern, fit for purpose facilities which provide the best quality care for local residents. I believe that these proposals go some way to achieving this but it is more important what local people think so I urge as many people as possible to take part in the NHS consultation on these plans.

“The reports concerning the future of services, including A&E, at Nuneaton’s George Eliot Hospital are very concerning and I will be looking further into this important development and the potential impact locally.” 

Cllr Mike Hall said, “Through engaging with the NHS in this process the Borough Council has helped ensure that key health services remain in Hinckley rather than being transferred to Coventry or Leicester. These proposals are not just about efficiency in the health service, they are about providing the best health care possible for people across the whole of Hinckley and Bosworth.

“Furthermore, given the reported proposals in the Warwickshire STP to move facilities, possibly including A&E and maternity, from the George Eliot hospital in Nuneaton, it is important that people in Hinckley & Bosworth also make their views known on this development.”
