David Tredinnick, MP for Bosworth, has welcomed the announcement that Earl Shilton has been shortlisted in the Great British High Street Awards for 2014.  The judging panel, made up of members of the Future High Street Forum, have or will be visiting all 21 finalists to decide on seven category winners. These seven high streets will win a share of the £50,000 cash prize and tailored support and mentoring from leading industry experts. 

David Tredinnick said, “I am delighted that Earl Shilton has been shortlisted in the Village category of the Great British High Street Awards 2014. With over 135 applications, being shortlisted in the top 21 is a huge achievement and offers a fantastic opportunity to showcase Earl Shilton to the country.” 

Penny Mordaunt MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government, said, “The Government is doing its bit and has committed to high streets as part of our long-term economic plan. It is supporting local shops and businesses with a billion pound package of investment that includes targeted business rate discounts, sensible planning changes and action that reins in over-zealous parking practices. But fundamentally it’s about hard working traders, community groups and representatives making a difference in places like Earl Shilton. 

“I am determined to do all I can to share the great work that’s gone into reviving our high streets so other areas can benefit and in entering this competition Earl Shilton has helped us do that. We will shortly be publicising the successes of the shortlisted high streets so that others can learn from these best practice examples.  The high street has been the cornerstone of the community for decades and today we are seeing them re-emerge with a renewed sense of self confidence.”
