Local MP visits Pathways Community Centre in Hinckley
Dr Luke Evans, MP for Bosworth, visited the Pathways Community Centre at Hinckley Baptist Church last week to meet with members of the dementia respite group, weekly lunch club and local Prince’s Trust, see the chapel renovations and commend the team for their fantastic work in providing a valuable service to our community.
Pathways, a place where residents of Dr Luke's constituency of Bosworth can visit within the week to meet and make friends, have lunch and take part in activities, is open all week to people of all ages. People are welcome to join a whole range of sessions from gentle exercise to computer classes, and Steps2Hope (a drop-in social self-help group for the bereaved) to the Girls Brigade and Boys Brigade (for 5 – 18 year olds on a Monday and Tuesday respectively).
HUGS, which stands for Hinckley Ukrainian Group Support, runs every Friday between 10 and 11:30am for Ukrainian refugees living in our area. They can go along to meet and make friends, receive information, advice and free English lessons.
While at the Centre, Dr Luke spoke to members of the community who use Pathways about their experiences, the friends they have made and their families. The representative for our area also took part in the activities, helping users of the Cornerstone Lunch Club to float the makeshift boats made from cork and rubber bands!
When speaking to one user of the Lunch Club, Dr Luke asked what the best thing about the group was… to which the gentleman responded ‘fellowship’. Many of the group's users credit Pathways with helping them to integrate back into the community after Covid-19 lockdowns caused them to spend more time at home, away from friends and family.
Dr Luke Evans, MP for Bosworth, said “Pathways offer a vital service to many people in our area. The whole team are incredibly generous with their time and it’s evident just how important the clubs and sessions that Pathways provide are to the people in our community who use them!
“I would encourage anyone who is looking for a place to meet and make friends to look into the sessions at Pathways Community Centre. And do keep checking back, the team have some really great sessions planned for the Autumn are always looking for new ideas.”
