Farming Minister joins meeting with local MP, farmers and NFU
Dr Luke Evans, MP for Bosworth, successfully convened a meeting between the Minister for Farming Victoria Prentis MP, local farmers and representatives of the National Farmers Union to highlight important local and national issues.
After meeting with farmers and the NFU earlier in the year, Dr Luke arranged for the Farming Minister to meet with key stakeholders in the Hinckley and Bosworth area to discuss concerns around food security and rising fertiliser prices.
Farmers and NFU representatives gave their thoughts on the local nature recovery work that the Government is doing and heard from the Minster about how the new subsidy scheme to support farmers will work.
Minister Prentis spoke about the work she has been doing to secure financial support for farmers and increase the use of biodegradable fertilisers, which it is hoped will ease the current cost of fertiliser prices after they have increased following the recent rise in the cost of gas.
Dr Luke said: “Farming is a really important industry in our area and I am pleased to see the Government is listening to farmers and working with the industry to correct current issues. I am grateful to the Farming Minister for listening to our concerns. Victoria, having grown up on a farm, understands these issues and knows what is most important to farmers in our area.
“Reforms to this area are a work in progress as we’re currently in the middle of a transition period in farming, but it is great to see that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs are bringing schemes forward to assist farmers across the country and are working with us to resolve our concerns. I urge anyone who is involved in the industry and lives in my constituency to get in touch if they have ideas on how support for farmers can be improved.”
