Myla Godwin, a young Hinckley and Bosworth resident, has called on Government for a national ‘Thank You NHS’ day and enlisted the help of Bosworth’s MP.
The proposal suggests that 5th July 2023, the 75th anniversary of the NHS, should be made a national ‘Thank You NHS’ day, during which school pupils could come to school in an NHS related outfit and have a day dedicated to learning about the work and history of the NHS.
Previously, in 2021, Myla Godwin welcomed NHS staff and Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, to Battling Brook Primary School to show her gratitude to nurses, doctors, paramedics and social care staff for their hard work. The entire school came together to put on the event, raising over £2,000 for NHS charities.
In a meeting with the MP that took place during February, Myla spoke about how her campaign to pay tribute to the NHS has grown as the petition reaches 650 signatures.
Another suggestion within the petition is for the nation to undertake a one-minute silence to remember the NHS and social care workers who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr Luke Evans MP promised to support Myla’s efforts and write to the Health Secretary Steve Barclay and Education Secretary Gillian Keegan to raise awareness of the campaign.
Myla Godwin said: “I started my campaign for a national ‘Thank You NHS’ day because I believe we should have a special day to say a special thank you to all the NHS workers who not only worked extremely hard during Covid and put their own lives at risk, but are always there for us to help keep us safe.
“I met with Dr Evans to tell him about my campaign and he will write to the Health Secretary and Education Secretary in support.
“All NHS staff are heroes and a celebration of their hard work on the 75th Anniversary of the NHS would show them how much they are appreciated by us all.”
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, said “It was really great to catch up with Myla and hear all about how her campaign has progressed.
“Having started my working life in the NHS and with my whole family working in medicine and healthcare, the NHS holds a special place in my heart so it was a pleasure to write to the Health and Education Secretaries to share Myla’s campaign.
“The 75th anniversary of the NHS later this year is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the tremendous work of health and social care staff across the nation who have worked tirelessly for our communities.”
