This week, with restrictions permitted, I returned to Westminster to resume my duties in the Chamber in person, a nice break from virtually beaming in!
My first appearance was to ask the Education Secretary about the management of the additional resources in the education system, to ensure they have a significant impact on education and are cost effective. You can watch the Ministerial response here: Additional Resources - Question to Education Secretary | Dr Luke Evans MP
On another important topic, after reading many letters from pupils and meeting with local schools to talk about the environment, I was pleased to be able to raise on their behalf concerns about recycling and setting international targets as we host the COP26 in the UK. You can watch the response here: International Recycling Targets | Dr Luke Evans MP
Finally, it was great to be in person for the Health and Social Care Committee meeting questioning Matt Hancock as part of the “lessons learnt” inquiry we are conducting. You can see our exchanges here: Lessons Learnt Inquiry - Questions to Matt Hancock | Dr Luke Evans MP
Furthermore, my week consisted of:
- Received the news about the boundary changes to the Bosworth Constituency. You can view the proposed changes to Bosworth constituency here: BCE Consultation Portal (bcereviews.org.uk) Have your say on the current proposals here: Have your say here | BCE Consultation Portal (bcereviews.org.uk)
- Visited the Heart of England Boxing Club to understand the difficulties they have been facing and plans to expand their facilities.
- Received a briefing on the vaccine roll out; I am pleased we have one of the highest uptake rates in the world, with now over half of adults being fully vaccinated. You can book your vaccine here: Book or manage your coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
- Held a meeting with our local Police Inspector Jamie Osborne regarding local crime rates and emerging patterns.
- Held a meeting with the Midlands Engine to discuss the future prosperity of Bosworth and the East Midlands.
- Attended the Green Council of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College to discuss the environment, what the Government is doing to reduce plastic waste and how the college can become involved.
- Received a briefing from the Minister for Care on the Health White Paper – on the care aspects.
- Held constituency surgeries to discuss, mask exemptions, NHS pay rise, vintage car registration, Alzheimer’s and social care, and child custody arrangements.
If you live in the Bosworth constituency and have a question or need my help then please do email me at [email protected] with your name and address.
