This week has understandably been dominated by the debate and vote on the Government’s second lockdown to help us defeat coronavirus.
Many of you have been in contact to give me your views or to ask for help.
I was fortunate to speak twice in the chamber of the House of Commons during this week’s debates.
You can see my speeches here and here which explain why I made the very difficult decision to vote in favour of the measures.
I’ve been contacted by many constituents arguing for exceptions from lockdown for places of worship, golf, gyms, archery, tennis, fishing and more; each making the point that risk of transmission for each of these activities is low.
Whilst I agree that these sort of activities should be amongst the first to return after this period of lockdown I am mindful that the aim right now is to minimise all transmission wherever possible, cumulatively each low risk exception adds up. I will keep following these up in the next few weeks.
This week I have also:
- Held a meeting with TikTok to discuss my body image bill.
- Took part in 2 Health and Social Care Select Committee where we examined started our review into maternity services, and therapeutics and vaccine advances in COVID.
- Caught up with Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport – Oliver Dowden – in the Member’s Tea Room to argue for a swift return for grassroots sport.
- Attended a coronavirus briefing for East Midlands MPs about the concern over COVID.
- Drew a virtual raffle for Hinckley’s BID.
- Had a catch up meeting with management from MIRA.
- Met with Cadent to discuss about the green future and hydrogen.
- Met with the Energy Research Accelerator for the Midlands – learning about turning green research into tangible products like solar, hydrogen and carbon capture.
- Visited Desford Primary School to see their work with local business Roving Books.
- …and held another constituent’s surgery.
Please do remember at this critical time the two central rules of #HandsFaceSpace and to #GetATest is you display symptoms.
Stay safe.
