This week has been a momentous week in the fight against COVID as the first of hopefully several vaccines has been approved for public use. I’m sure that most people in Westminster, and most here in Hinckley and Bosworth are optimistic that the end of this year’s public health ordeal is in sight.
For the first time in many months we are able see a future where the coronavirus does not dominate our lives. This week there is a real reason for hope.
This week I have:
- Sat on a Delegated Legislation Committee to consider the draft Jurisdiction, Judgments and Applicable Law (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020
- Took part in the Health and Social Care Select Committee where we questioned experts on the impact of COVID on BAME people.
- Spoke in the Public Health debate prior to voting for the adoption of new local tier restrictions to tackle coronavirus, you can see my speech here: https://www.drlukeevans.org.uk/news/public-health-debate-1-december-2020
- Asked the Secretary of State for Transport about the A5 bridge in Hinckley’s unwanted accolade as ‘the most bashed bridge in Britain’, and what his Department could do to expedite a solution? https://www.drlukeevans.org.uk/news/dr-luke-raises-most-bashed-bridge-britain-parliament-again
- Met with the Minister of State for Digital and Culture to discuss my body image private members bill.
- Held a virtual meeting with the Chair of the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership.
- …and I was absolutely delighted and honoured to be awarded the Patchwork Foundation’s Overall Newcomer MP of the Year in the MP of the Year Awards.
